Friends, I would like to introduce you to Local Lake Arrowhead Resident, Alexis Nelson. As the holidays are approaching, families all over will begin the task of searching for a photographer who will capture the essence of their family through beautifully done family portraits. It is important to find the right photographer, who can work with grumpy teens, and fussy babies, to get that perfect family photo that everyone gushes over. Alexis Nelson has you covered.
Alexis is a local photographer based in Lake Arrowhead, CA. Her family moved from Los Angeles a year ago where she used to photograph actors and editorial sessions. Alexis has been featured in SOUTH Magazine, and her graphics company HOAX Films earned her an Emmy Nomination for Art Direction and Graphic Design. When her and her husband had their daughter, they wanted to raise her somewhere beautiful and around nature, but they still needed to be close to Los Angeles. Lake Arrowhead seemed the perfect place. In the mountains, she is able to photograph the amazing local families and the tourists who come to enjoy the mountain. Her focus is on families, newborns, and engagements, as well as events like weddings. Her style in general is typically light and airy, but she also loves a vintage rustic feel.
Alexis is a Southern California native so making a move into the entertainment industry was easier for her than for some. “I have been around Film and TV since I was a kid. My grandfather Dick Nelson worked at CBS Television City and helped develop television as we know it working on shows like Sonny & Cher and Red Skelton. I took every opportunity to gain on set film experience. In high school, I would drive to see my friends at Brooks Institute of Photography and Film in Ventura to work on their student films in any capacity. I would act in their black and white Bolex films, hold a bounce board or a slate, sweep the floor, make coffee, you name it.” Alexis has always been very passionate about photography and art. “When I lived in Los Angeles I was constantly shooting actors, but when I had my daughter two years ago, the move over to including family shoots was very easy. My love of children and comfort with shooting them is absolutely thanks to motherhood.”
Photography has opened doors to new friendships for Alexis. “I love the friendships that I gain through photography. I have met so many great families up on the mountain and I’m so grateful for that. I also have so much fun designing my photo sessions. I scavenge the local thrift stores and put together really fun, custom sessions.”Right now it is the busiest season of the year, with a focus on the holidays. Up on the mountain, Alexis often works with families, real estate agents, and newly engaged couples. Currently, she is shooting holiday mini sessions in Running Springs, CA with a vintage truck. She offers family portrait sessions, lifestyle photography, newborn photography, editorial and product photography, and weddings. Alexis specializes in working with babies and kids. Alexis tends to shoot all around the clock. Sunset time is her favorite because of the glowing warm light. Alexis has even offered Photography workshops.
